A breakdown of those released showed that 53 were males and six females.
According to the Abimbola, the freed inmates who have been on the waiting trial list were held for the wrong reasons.

The state chief judge made this statement during his visit to the prison. He noted that the purpose of his visit was to make sure that the dispensation of justice in the state is carried out swiftly to inmates that were awaiting trials.
He added that his routine visitation to prison will lead to decongest the prison saying those that gained their freedom were illegally arrested.

He explained that the freed inmates had spent more years in prison than they would have if they were tried and convicted.
Commenting on the release, Justice Abimbola said that the affected inmates were having some health challenges and others were charged for civil case not criminal.
“The released inmates have been given another opportunity to repent and live a crime-free life; but if they waste such an opportunity again, nature will cash up with them.
“I urge the released inmates to learn their lessons and go to the society to sin no more,’’ the chief judge said.
Ogunmola Tairudeen, the Controller of Prisons of the state, said that Agodi Prison had been battling with the issue of congestion by the inmates.

He thanked the chief judge for the visit saying that 93 inmates had been convicted.
Tairudeen counseled the freed inmates to shun crime and other vices so as to stay out of trouble.
