Ever since Wizkid earned his Sony Deal, he has steadily been working on recording his music Caribbean style.
From his gust feature on Justine Skye’s ‘U don’t know’, to more work on ‘Mamacita’, and ‘Daddy Yo’, he has pushed the sounds from the Islands into his music, worked on his patois and continues to pivot his art in sound and style of delivery.
Recently, his leaked single, ‘Hush up the silence’, which features US rapper Drake, all but confirmed the embrace of Caribbean music Starboy’s new sound.
That’s why the new single with Jamaican artiste and producer, Vybz Cartel, feels like a continuation of all of that had work. Vybz Kartel who has over time worked with Rihanna, Jay Z and Major Lazer, and has scored some of the biggest hits duing his career, and he comes through on this one.
“Wine to the top’ is a reggae/dancehall production with a fusion of EDM synths. Vybz Kartel sets up the riddims in verse one, and Wizkid picks up from the hook and spins a second verse and wraps it up. This feels like the next club single, if pushed right, although Sony Music prefer to move ahead with the release of the Drake record.
Wizkid continues his journey into the Caribbean sound, and with every step he takes, and every record that he gets to work on, he begins to own the sound like a native and adopts more of the wave to good effect.
The star has promise his fans 4 mixtapes and an album, with one of the projects being a collaborative effort with Nigerian artiste Wande Coal.
He is currently working on getting his album out under the Sony platform, and although nobody knows which project will house the single, it will be a fine addition to any project coming from Starboy.
