Nigerian midfielder John Mikel Obi has paid tribute to his former teammate and captain John Terry who is leaving his boyhood club, Chelsea at the end of the season.
Chelsea and Terry announced on Monday, April the captain will be leaving after 22 years with the club.
Mikel who played with Terry for 10 years took to his Instagram to pay tribute to his former captain.
“It
was a privilege to play with you and learn from you. Not only a Chelsea
legend, but a true Football legend and a brilliant captain ⚽️ Good
luck Old Boy #neighbour,” Mikel wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of him and Terry.
Mikel and Terry were part of Chelsea’s most successful era ever, winning 11 trophies together including a Champions League title which they won in 2012.
Off the pitch, both football stars were also very close as they were neighbours before Mikel left for China.
Terry in January 2017 had nice words for Mikel when the midfielder left Chelsea for Tianjin TEDA calling him a legend.
“I would like to wish this LEGEND of a player and man all the very best with his move to China,” the Chelsea captain wrote.
