This was made known by Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Buhari.

said Buhari, who departed New York where he attended the 72nd United
Nations General Assembly, has arrived the United Kingdom safely.
“One thing is sure; the trip was to last between last Sunday and next Sunday/Monday.
“Though he is going to the UK, everything will still be done within the timeframe of the trip,” Adesina had said.

While
the reason for the President's stopover in London is uncertain,
Adesina told Channels Television that the trip would not exceed its
scheduled timeframe.
While in the US,
President Buhari addressed the gathering of world leaders at the UN
General Assembly and also had lunch with President Donald Trump.
