Cristiano Ronaldo has stunned Real Madrid by informing them of his decision to leave following the tax evasion taxes he is facing in Spain.
Ronaldo during the week was accused of evading tax up to the tune of €15million by prosecutors in Spain.
Reports
coming from Spain this morning have revealed that Ronaldo is angry over
the tax evasion accusations and is ready to leave Spain.
According to A Bola, the 32-year-old has told Real Madrid that his decision to quite the club us 'irreversible'.
Real Madrid are said to be shocked by the player’s decision after they released a statement backing him in the face of the accusations.
The
Portugal star, however, believes he has been treated as a criminal
especially after he took steps to come clean in his tax issues by paying
an extra €6m in 2013.
According to the
reports, Ronaldo feels the latest accusation is as a result of a
difference of interpretation of Spain’s complicated tax laws on image
rights.
A judge in Madrid will make a decision on whether the case goes to court and the reigning Ballon d’Or
winner will have 30 days to plead guilty, pay a fine or prove his
innocence which will attract a harsher sentence if found guilty.
Real
Madrid have backed the star, stating that they are behind the man who
scored two goals in the final of the Champions League just a fortnight
ago.
"Real Madrid C.F. have full
confidence in our player Cristiano Ronaldo, who we understand has acted
in accordance with the legality regarding the fulfilment of his fiscal
obligations," Real said in a statement.
"Since
his arrival at Real Madrid C.F. in July 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo has
always shown a clear will to fulfil all his tax obligations."
"Real
Madrid C.F. are absolutely convinced that our player, Cristiano
Ronaldo, will prove his total innocence in this process. Real Madrid
C.F. hope that justice is done as quickly as possible so that his
innocence can be proven as soon as possible."
